I’ve had gastritis for 2 years. I get heartburn, bloating after oily/spicy food, constipation, low appetite, and nausea. I’m dependent on acid medicines. I haven’t tested for H. pylori because stopping PPIs causes severe heartburn. What should I do next?
Based on your symptoms, it seems possible that you might have H.Pylori infection so I would suggest you get it tested. PPI need not be stopped immediately, they can be tapered slowly to reduce the body's dependency on them. The other symptoms also point to a low acid environment in your gut which creates a homeground for H.Pylori to grow. Stop eating oily and spicy food. It bland and simple food with less spice like dal khichdi and rice ganji. Avoid eating too much - fill up only 70-80% of your stomach to reduce your reflux. And take warm water with ghee on empty stomach early morning.
These are only temporary measures but I would really recommend you talk to us so we can take a detailed history and help you out with the complete diet and functional medicine aspect.
